Life at Work
Ready to Make the Plunge?
by Eugenie Houston

Fancy a sports car, luxury apartment and exotic holidays every year ? Well possibly not all in the first year but if you are suited to the free-lance life you have a greater chance of achieving a higher disposal income than a regular employee. Being a contractor brings with it a wealth of advantages - more money, freedom from company politics but most of all more money. This is what swings the scales away from the perceived security of permanent employment in favour of free-lancing with it associated risks of time on the bench.

If you are a contractor, in IT or any other sector, you are in business for yourself. You can decide to become an agency employee or set up your own company, but essentially you will still be marketing the same product: yourself, your skills set, your ability to deliver the goods reliably both technically and by fitting in professionally with the client company.
