Q. Who applies for a work permit?
A. The EMPLOYER, on behalf of a prospective employee, is the only one who can apply for a work permit. The employee cannot apply directly for a permit.
Q. How does the employer apply for a work permit?
A. There are two procedures, which an employer can follow to apply for your permit, depending on your circumstances. Please read here for more details.
Q. How long does it take to process an application?
A. Once the application has been submitted for a work permit application it takes approximately 4 - 8 weeks to process. Once the application has been fully considered a decision to issue or refuse a permit the employer will be contacted.
Q. How long does a work permit last?
A. The duration of a work permit can be from one month to one year. The period of validity of a permit will normally begin on the date of commencement of employment and in any case, not exceed one calendar year. Applications for renewal of permits can be made on the expiry of the relevant period.
